The Indus River Valley is the third of the great river valley civilizations developed. It grew from 2400 BCE to about 1500 BCE. Before its collapse, Indo-European or Aryan invaders entered the Indian sub-continent. Then for the following centuries, these two civilizations blended and evolved, forming Indian civilization. During this period, two great religious traditions — Hinduism and Buddhism — had their origins and then spread outwards. Rise of Maurya and Gupta Empires. It then established the patterns of Indian civilization.
The Mauryan Empire was the first empire to unite almost all of India under a single government. Lasted from about 324 BCE to 185 BCE. Under the rule of Chandragupta Maurya, which ended around 298 BCE. Chandragupta’s son Bindusara and Bindusara's son Ashoka expanded the empire far into South India.

Mauryan Empire
The Gupta Empire was named after the Gupta dynasty which ruled between 320- 550 CE. The Gupta dynasty period is known as the Golden Age of India. Gupta Empire consisted of areas like Malwa, Gujarat, Saurashtra and Bengal. Foreign tribes like Persians, the Hunas, Kamjobas, Kinnaras and Kirates were defeated and their territories were conquered.
